Wat is de Best Barista-competitie?

De Best Barista Challenge is een internationale competitie van Lavazza en wordt voor de zesde keer georganiseerd. Voor het eerst doet Nederland mee aan de nationale voorronde. Deelnemers strijden om de titel Best Barista Netherlands 2026, en een ticket voor de internationale finale in Turijn. De jury beoordeelt deelnemers op technische vaardigheden, creativiteit, presentatie en storytelling. Met een eigen signature koffie laten barista's zien wie ze zijn, wat hen inspireert en hoe zij koffie tot een beleving maken.

Wie kunnen zich inschrijven?

• Je werkt als barista in de horeca in Nederland
• Je spreekt Engels: de volledige competitie wordt in het Engels gehouden
• Je bent beschikbaar op 3 november, (Nederlandse finale in Amsterdam), 30 november (uitreiking Entree Awards) en van 5 t/m 8 april 2027 (internationale finale Turijn)
• Je bent klaar om jouw eigen signature koffiedrank én het verhaal erachter te presenteren

Hoe schrijf ik mezelf in?

Ben jij een barista met passie voor koffie, oog voor perfectie én een goed verhaal? Schrijf je dan voor 30 september 2026 in via onderstaand formulier. 

Hoe ziet de competitiedag eruit?

De Nederlandse finale vindt op dinsdag 3 november plaats in The Loft, A'DAM Tower in Amsterdam, van 10.00 tot 17.00 uur, gevolgd door een gezellige borrel.

Het belangrijkste onderdeel van de wedstrijddag is de Creative Twist. Barista’s bereiden hun eigen signature koffiedrank en nemen de jury mee in het verhaal achter hun creatie. Hierbij draait alles om creativiteit, charisma, persoonlijke storytelling en een onvergetelijke smaakbeleving.

Elke barista bereidt vier espresso’s en vier serves van zijn of haar signature koffiedrank. We zijn op zoek naar een perfecte blend van vakmanschap, persoonlijkheid en creativiteit. Denk aan mixology, charisma en storytelling – samengebracht in één glas. Laat zien wie je bent en maak er jouw eigen show van! De jury beoordeelt de deelnemers op technische vaardigheden, espresso-extractie, smaak, creativiteit, storytelling, presentatie en persoonlijkheid.

De koffies worden bereid met één van de Lavazza Tales of Italy-blends: Galleria, Trastevere of Canal Grande. Koffie, espressomachines en standaardmaterialen zijn aanwezig. Specifieke ingrediënten, bijzondere serveermaterialen of extra apparatuur voor jouw signature drink neem je zelf mee.

Wanneer wordt de winnaar bekend?

De top 3 wordt uitgenodigd voor de Entree Awards op maandag 30 november in Theater Amsterdam, waar de winnaar live op het podium wordt bekendgemaakt, in het bijzijn van duizend professionals uit de Nederlandse horeca.

Wanted: The Best Barista in the Netherlands!

The search for the best barista in the Netherlands has begun. On Tuesday, 3 November, the Best Barista Netherlands Challenge will take place at the A'DAM Tower in Amsterdam. The winner will be announced on 30 November during the Entree Awards and will travel to Turin to represent the Netherlands at the international finals.

What is the Best Barista Competition?

The Best Barista Challenge is an international competition organized by Lavazza and is being held for the sixth time. This year marks the first time the Netherlands will host its own national qualifying round. Competitors will battle for the title of Best Barista Netherlands 2026 and a place in the international final in Turin. Participants are judged on their technical skills, creativity, presentation, and storytelling. Through their own signature coffee creation, baristas showcase who they are, what inspires them, and how they turn coffee into a memorable experience.

Who can apply?

You can participate if you:

• Work as a barista in the Dutch hospitality industry
• Speak English, as the entire competition will be conducted in English
• Are available on 3 November (Dutch final in Amsterdam), 30 November (Entree Awards ceremony), and 5–8 April 2027 (international final in Turin)
• Are ready to present your own signature coffee drink along with the story behind it

How do I register?

Are you a barista with a passion for coffee, an eye for perfection, and a great story to tell? Register via the form below before 30 September 2026.

What does the competition day look like?

The Dutch final will take place on Tuesday, 3 November, at The Loft, A'DAM Tower in Amsterdam, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, followed by networking drinks.

Among the daily activities, the key challenge of the day will be the Creative Twist. Baristas will prepare their own signature coffee drink and guide the jury through the story behind it. This is all about creativity charisma, personal storytelling and a memorable sensory experience. Each barista will prepare four espressos and four coffee drink servings. We are looking for skills, personality and creativity all blended together in a perfect drink. Think about mixology, charisma and storytelling in a glass. Be ready to put up your own show!

All coffees must be prepared using one of the Lavazza Tales of Italy blends: Galleria, Trastevere, or Canal Grande. Coffee, espresso machines, and standard equipment will be provided. Any special ingredients, unique serving materials, or additional equipment required for your signature drink must be brought by the participant.

When will the winner be announced?

The top three finalists will be invited to the Entree Awards on Monday, 30 November, at Theater Amsterdam, where the winner will be announced live on stage in front of an audience of over one thousand professionals from the Dutch hospitality industry.
